Feeding
Choices- Feed them right…make them bright
The first year is the most
important year of your baby’s life as your baby grows the fastest
during this one year. What you feed the baby during this time, is thus
of vital importance. It is important that you be aware of the various
feeding options available to you.
|
Why breast feeding
is best: The advantages of breast feeding are as follows:
 |
It
provides the best nutrition and protection from illness for
your baby. |
 |
It
is all they need in the first 4-6 months of their life. |
 |
Breastfeeding
is convenient. It needs no equipment and is most reliable. |
 |
It
helps the mother’s body get back into shape. |
 |
It
is the most economical way to provide good nutrition for your
child. |
 |
Mother’s
Milk is easy to digest, and the iron is better absorbed. |
 |
Children
who are breastfed are less susceptible to allergic diseases. |
Important
Note: The more you breastfeed, the easier it is to maintain a good
supply of milk. A lot of Mother’s continue to breastfeed after 6 months,
and
give the baby other foods as well. If you go to work, you can still
breastfeed your baby partially. Feed him/her before you go to work
and on your return and during the night.

The right formula for a
healthy child
If
you do decide to start formula milk, please consult with your doctor.
Mothers opt for Formula for various reasons. This could include an
inability on the part of the mother to feed the baby due to illness or
breast surgery, a previous experience with bottle feeding, adoption,
weaning the child from the breast after 1 year, the desire to have
other family members share the responsibility of feedings, etc. Either
way, it is important you choose an infant formula that provides your
baby with the nutrition he needs and also meets quality standards.
Also consider cost implications before making the decision. Mothers
should also take care to prepare the formula by following the
instructions for preparation and give priority to hygiene and
sterilization of bottles, water and dilution process. Also, Mother’s
should prepare 1 bottle at a time.
'Mother’s Choice'
offers a varied range of products in this category that provide
excellent and balanced nutrition for your little one.

Is your baby getting
the right nutrients?
It is important
that your child gets the right amount of iron in the first 2 years of
his/her life. Those who don’t, develop iron deficiency or anemia. To
ensure you are giving your baby all she/he needs to develop, please
consult with your baby’s doctor. If you are breastfeeding, start
your baby on solid food by 6 months, to ensure that he/she gets iron
supplements. If you are formula feeding, start an iron fortified
formula, along with other foods. For tips on the foods you can feed
your baby, please consult the doctor.
When your child is
allergic to milk…
Sometimes,
children develop sensitivity to milk. This manifests itself in skin
rashes, loose stools, irritability. A child suffering from these
symptoms might require a soy formula or a lactose free formula. Please
consult the doctor, who will enable you to make the right choice,
which provides the best nutrition for your child.

Is your
child getting enough sleep- A peep into the world of sleep!
Parents generally ask the question ‘Is my child sleeping too much?
Or too little? How much is enough? In reality, as your baby grows,
the sleep requirement changes. A new baby will sleep a total of
approximately 16 hours in 24 hours, but by the time he/she reaches
6 months of age, the total sleep requirement is about 14 hours, 11
hours at night and a 1-2 hour nap in the morning and afternoon.
The night time and daytime sleep pattern will change from time to
time as you can see from the chart below.
General Pattern of Night time and Daytime Sleep from Week 1 to 5
years

Relax. Let your instincts take over and put your fears to rest.
Talk to the baby or sing to her/him and as the days go by, you
will both start enjoying this special time together!

gain-Keeping Track of Vaccinations!
Vaccinations or Immunization is the most practical way of
preventing a disease. It is imperative that we protect our
children and also the community and society at large. Immunization
schedules are given by local health authorities and it is
important you keep track of what has been given and what is to be
given when. As most vaccinations should be given by 2 years of
age, try and maintain a record and in case you miss a recommended
shot, check with your doctor who will advise you on the course of
action to be taken.
